The 21 Best Lab

Brides / Lecia Landis

There's no better time than your wedding day to splurge on sparkling diamond accessories. From eye-catching earrings and hairpins to elegant necklaces, diamonds truly are a bride's best friend. One of our favorite diamond accessories? Tennis bracelets. The understated and timeless style brings a subtle pop of glamor to any bridal ensemble.

The iconic style—which does have a connection to the sport of tennis—first came on the jewelry scene in the 1920s and was originally known as a "diamond line bracelet" before earning its tennis title. The bracelet's modern name was "coined after women's tennis champion Chris Evert lost a similar style on the 1987 US Open court," says Yuvi Alpert, founder of the fine jewelry house Noémie.

While a bracelet dripping in diamonds sounds ideal, to say the least, the price point typically does not. Fortunately, with the rise of lab-grown diamonds, which are diamonds grown in a lab versus those mined from the earth, there are now plenty of more affordable (and sustainable!) options available.

To help you find the perfect tennis bracelet for your big day, we've researched the best options available for a variety of bridal styles and budgets. We narrowed down our top selections by considering their design, carat weight, cost, and overall quality.

Read on for the best lab-grown diamond tennis bracelets.

When shopping for a diamond tennis bracelet, or for any diamond accessory for that matter, it's important to confirm its certification. "To ensure the diamonds are high-quality and conflict-free, make sure the tennis bracelet includes an IGI certification," says Alpert. Other popular certifications include GIA, AGS, and GCAL. Whether it's lab-grown or not, this step is essential!

Alpert also recommends keeping "cut, color, and clarity" top of mind. The cut is important because that will help determine the style of the bracelet, and if you prefer one cut over another, you’ll be sure to find something that matches your preferred aesthetic. This basically helps narrow down your options when sifting through the seemingly endless options online. Color and clarity are also important aspects to consider when shopping for a lab-grown tennis bracelet. They play key roles in how diamonds look and will affect the final product and style. If the color and clarity aren't great, the diamonds might appear dirty and dingy.

According to Alpert, the weight of your bracelet is also something to consider. In the case of lab-grown diamonds, this is an important part of your jewelry shopping journey because it helps determine the value and price of the diamond (or in this case, diamonds). The higher the carat weight, the more expensive the piece will be. Therefore, you can factor this knowledge into your overall bridal wardrobe budget.

A tennis bracelet consists of "a single row of flexible, close-set diamonds, and a securely designed clasp," says Alpert, noting that the bracelet style is "designed to move fluidly without the concern of it falling off." Tennis bracelets are an excellent option for brides on their wedding day, as they add a timeless touch of sparkle without going too over the top or distracting from your wedding dress.

One challenge to choosing a diamond bracelet is ensuring that it fits. Luckily, tennis bracelets are similar to other pieces of jewelry in that they can be resized, says Alpert. "If your bracelet is too loose, your local jeweler can remove one or several links to create the perfect fit," he confirms.

The only difference between lab-grown and natural diamonds is the source. "Natural diamonds are mined in nature," says Alpert. "They form over the course of thousands of years through intense heat and pressure." On the other hand, lab-grown diamonds "are crafted under lab-controlled conditions." Lab-grown diamonds are considered more ethical and sustainable, since the conditions required to "mine" these diamonds are safer. Although they have the same makeup as natural diamonds, lab-grown diamonds are significantly more affordable, since they do not require as much time to procure, and they touch fewer hands throughout the creation process. The best part? You can get a larger carat size for a fraction of the price!
