Artist Ali Hyder claims Ali Sethi used his digital painting without permission
Ali Sethi is one Pakistani singer from the current generation who is revered within the country and globally for his contribution to the revival of ghazal. He has given several musical masterpieces and is always vocal about societal taboos through his music. His lyrics as well as his fashion sense have shattered many gender norms and challenged societal standards. So, it came as a shock when a digital artist, Ali Hyder, accused him of stealing his artwork for Spotify.
Ali Hyder, previously a fan of Sethi, recently took to Twitter and shared that his artwork had been ‘stolen’ by the singer he looked up to. This disappointed many fans of Ali Sethi's who called him out on Twitter.
In July 2018, Hyder loved Ali Sethi's music video Chan Kithan starring the singer's sister, Mira Sethi. Hyder made a painting of one of her shots from the video and shared it on his account. Mira even liked the tweet and thanked him.
Loved @alisethimusic video of #ChanKithan so much, did a little #painting as practice. @sethimirajee hope you like it! #portrait #art #hijab #pakistani #music #beauty pic.twitter.com/Tj0iKsSxtc

But he recently found out that Ali Sethi used his painting as a cover art for Spotify without taking any permission or giving him credits. Even his name has been cropped out for the cover image.
He then asked Mira, who had earlier replied on his tweet, to given an explanation.
@sethimirajee can you pls explain why your brother is using my artwork as cover on @SoundCloud without permission or credit??? I just found out it's been there since 2019. #copyrightinfringement pic.twitter.com/Jkw7N9gZsQ

While replying to Twitter users, Hyder stated that "I credited him when posting it. Spotify pays their artists and he has made no attempt to credit me."
Yes and I credited him when posting it. @Spotify pays their artists and he has made no attempt to credit me.
